Maya AKA Lafayette
Hello WAIF,
I am writing to share an update on my adoption of the cat “Lafayette” from WAIF Coupeville last year.
At the time, I had just arrived to the U.S. to be with my husband and felt very lonely here not knowing anybody, being away from family in Italy and working from home full time.
I had wanted to adopt a cat for a long time and finally decided to visit the shelter to find the right one for me.
I was overwhelmed with how many lovely cats there were and found it very difficult to choose. I saw a cute white tabby kitten and thought to adopt him but once I came back to the shelter he was gone. That’s when I met Lafayette: upon walking in the room, she saw me and walked straight onto my shoulder from the cat tower. She was purring already and wanted to be held. That’s when she chose me! I later found out that she was that kitten’s mother (although she looks like a kitten herself) and had been at the shelter for almost six months.
I named her “Maya” and she has been my best friend ever since. She has brought so much joy to my life and hugely helped me cope with loneliness and life’s challenges. I know whatever changes I will go through in life she’ll be by my side and I will be by hers.
Maya loves:
- Snuggling with me
- Taking naps in the cutest positions
- Lying in the warm sun
- Chatting with her cute meow
- Playing with all kinds of toys
- Waiting for me at the window to come back home from my walks
- Eating people’s long hair
- Hanging out in the backyard (don’t worry, only supervised and in the fenced in area )
She is extremely sweet and has never showed any sign of aggression toward anybody.
She is very loved now though and I am so happy to be her human!
Thank you WAIF!
Stefania M.
