We’re happy to share with you our 2021 statistics for our sheltering services. These numbers include our main shelter in Coupeville, along with the Oak Harbor Cat Adoption Center and Freeland Cat Cottage.

2021 Live Release Rate: 94.8% (95.5% dogs; 94.3% cats)

Animal Intake: 380 (155 dogs, 225 cats)

  • Strays: 241 (117 dogs, 124 cats)
  • Owner Surrenders: 102 (21 dogs, 81 cats)
  • Other Intakes: 37 (17 dogs, 18 cats, 2 kittens)

Live Outcomes: 348 (150 dogs, 198 cats)

  • Adoptions: 215 (39 dogs, 176 cats)
  • Returned to Owner: 132* (110 dogs, 22 cats)
  • Transferred to Partnering Organization: 1 (dog)

*73% of lost dogs returned to their owners (compare to national average of 22 – 25%), and 11% of lost cats returned to owners (compare to national average of 2 – 4%).

Other Outcomes: 24 (8 dogs, 16 cats)

  • Died in Shelter: 5 (1 dog; 4 cats)
  • Shelter Euthanasia: 19 (7 dogs, 12 cats)
