Finch
Dear WAIF,
Finch is a fabulous dog! The neighbors who rescued her and took her to you comment on how beautiful she looks, and how happy she is, which warms our hearts.
She was not house trained at two years old when she came to us, but learned that in just a few days. She also went to some obedience training for leash training and recall and meeting other dogs without reactivity (she is still working on that one as she wants to play with every dog she meets!) She is very smart and has learned a lot! She is sweet and loving; she loves people. Being OK with being petted has taken a little bit of time because she was a little standoffish at first and still is not trusting of full body hugs, but now loves to be hugged and loved and seeks it out. She is definitely food protective, much to the chagrin of our beloved 10-year-old black lab, Scout! Now they are fast friends and even share bowls to lick sometimes. Scout is acting a little younger these days with a little spring in her step and getting a lot more exercise! Finch still wants to be very first in all things, and wants to play pretty rough with Scout, as puppies do, but now that she’s 3, she might be starting to settle down a little bit with that.
She sleeps in our bed and has her own warm bed facing the couch for when we’re up. Sometimes she snuggles up to Scout when they’re sleeping. She is basically a comfort queen, which is great because I think she didn’t have much of that before she came here.
We have a fenced yard, and she has a doggie door and loves the freedom of coming and going and is a fierce protector of the fence line, which has led to some startled and sometimes scared faces of delivery people and dog walkers on the road, but quickly they see that she is not a threat, just a pussycat doing her job! Loudly!
You all kept her for two months and fattened her up and got her healthy and spayed her and did such a great job for her. We are so, so glad we found her and that she found us!
We can’t thank you enough for the work you do. It is the best work that there is—taking care of animals!
Thanks again!
Julie G. and Sandy N.
