Cordelia AKA Juliet

We love to see our former shelter residents happy and healthy at home! Cordelia’s adopter has kept us updated on her adjustment to her new home all throughout the first year of her adoption. Read on to see how Cordelia has been doing.

The first week:

I just wanted to let you know that Juliet is doing well. She hid under my bed for the first hour she was home. Then she came out and prowled all around like she owned the place. The introduction between her and the dog resulted in a couple of barks and a hiss. She doesn’t seem unsettled by sharing a home with a dog although she prefers to stay out of sight when the dog is around. She has been eating and used her litter box. She played with her toys and discovered the pressure activated heated cat bed. But when I went to bed, she immediately abandoned it in favor of cuddles. She is a wonderful little cat and I am so happy to have adopted her.

The first month:

WAIF has very good cats, and even great cats, but I got your best cat. I walked in with my cat carrier and walked out with the best cat.

Juliet is now named Cordelia. She bit on my nose on our first day together for not petting her enough and I decided she needed a name to go with her feisty personality. Cordelia is also from Shakespeare. She was King Lear’s youngest daughter who refused to flatter him even though it meant she would be disowned.

Cordy cat adapted beautifully. From the first day, she acted like she was always my cat. She is a total diva and likes to have me present when she eats. She still doesn’t like the dog, but we will give that time. After I dropped the dog off at Adventure Trails Dog Camp for the day, I brought her into the main part of the house. She enjoyed exploring and coming to me for pets, but by afternoon, she had retired voluntarily to the bedroom to nap in her heated cat bed. She LOVES the heated cat bed. She has also done well traveling. One of my concerns was how she would handle two hour car rides twice a week I need to do for work. We have made the trip now multiple times and she is an amazing little traveler. She settles down immediately into her carrier and goes to sleep. When I let her out, she will go under the bed for 5 minutes and then her majesty comes out to be appeased with an offering of wet food and pets.

She is extremely affectionate and adores having her own person for pets and cuddles. She clearly has known love from people and I don’t understand why someone would abandon her.

I had a cat tree set up by the window and opened the bindings, thinking she would like to watch the world go bye. Nope. As soon as she climbed up and saw out, she immediately ran under the bed and wouldn’t come out until the blinds were closed. And she hasn’t gone out on the cat tree since. Outside is still very scary for her. This breaks my heart because what cat doesn’t like watching birds and judging the neighbors? Hopefully, as she feels more safe, she will be okay with looking out windows.

I have attached pictures of her majesty living her best indoor cat life.

Just so you know, I got your best cat.

The first year:

Our one year update. Cordelia (formerly known as Juliet) is well and thriving. She is such a happy little cat. From the first day, she was over the moon to have her own person and home. She still doesn’t like the dog and I don’t expect that to change. Her favorite activities are sleeping in her heated cat bed, playing with her wand toy, and snuggling with her human. I am still convinced I got your best cat.
