Chewbacca (Chewie as we call him) came to our shelter as a stray after being callously abandoned with a bag of dog food and a bowl of water in a field off of Hwy 20. Chewie was emaciated, terrified and devastated. It took animal control and a kind neighbor all day and into the night to get this poor dog to come to them. Once they were able to contain him he was brought to our shelter. The scars of that abandonment stayed with Chewie for some time. WAIF Shelter Staff patiently let Chewie gain his confidence and trust again in humans. Once he opened up we found we had a 100 pound young pup that just wants to be a lap dog (we have been working on that). Chewie has put on over 20 pounds and is raring to go.
Chewie would do best with an experienced dog owner who can continue with his training. He would also do best in a family where someone is home most of the time. Due to his size and exuberance he will need a home with children 10 or over.
We are asking that only lifetime committed families apply. Chewie has such a loving nature and suffered so when abandoned, we feel any additional loss of family in his life would be detrimental to his emotional wellbeing.
No children under 10
