Hello again!
I had promised to write and let you know how Comanche; aka Charles is doing. You don't have to tell the people who had to give up Comanche that we changed his name - we just found it too cumbersome to call "Comanche" and we were so very fond of Charles the 1st that it was a tribute to name Comanche after him. Charles was responding to his new name within a week. But of course he IS very smart.
Charles is under the care of Harris Veterinary Clinic in Lodi-Lockford. He checked out just fine and is on a U/D diet prescribed by the vet. The Vet said he should loose a few more pounds but he has not lost any more weight even though he ate very little of the U/D diet food the first week - now I boil sliced carrots in Chicken Bouillon and add them to his dry food and he eats about 2-1/2 cups a day. He tested free of Heart Worm and is on the preventative for them because they are prevalent here. He is also protected from fleas and ticks.
We walk every morning and every evening, approximately an hour a day, and we go to the Dog Park in Lodi several times a week. Charles is a real gentleman inside the park - but when he is on a leash on the street he thinks he has to bark at other dogs and people. He is very good about no barking in the backyard and he barks only briefly when someone comes to the door.
I'm reading up on training Shelties and may have a one on one session with a trainer about the barking when we walk on a leash and the fact that he gets SO very excited when we get in the car - that he spins and twists his seat belt and cry's almost constantly when we get in the car to go anywhere. BUT on the way home from the Dog Park he is calm and lays down. So I know we will get him to the point of riding calmly everywhere.
We are so VERY happy together and he is a wonderful addition to our family. I have attached some photos of Charles for you to share.
Thank you for taking such good care of Charles and all the creatures who pass your way!
Pam, Stan and Charles
